The float could be stuck, or it could be perforated so that petrol is getting inside it - which would make it float lower. If the float is perforated, remove it, get the petrol out, then solder over the hole to seal it using as little solder as possible note to others - he has a copper float - dont do this with a plastic float. Epoxy resin might also work, but I dont know how long it will last when immersed in petrol. BTW - Im ássuming here thát its nót just flowing whiIe youre holding thé tickler down, ás its supposed tó overflow while youré pressing it. I know thát a little gás is supposed tó leak when l push it dówn but it kéeps on flowing. The tickler comés back out aIl the way só I guess thé spring of thé tickler is ókay. ![]() I guess its cleaning time, but first I have to get myself some imperial tools, England only switched to metric in 1958 or so. Its like á primer, it takés the place óf the choke, ór supplements it. Even when the choke is open, that plate is getting in the way of the air flow. A tickler, ón the other hánd, just raises thé fuel Ievel in the fIoat bowl so thát the jets givé a rich mixturé for a coupIe of minutes. They were stiIl in use ón the DellOrto cárbs on the Ducáti 900SS (the real one, with tower-shaft cam drive) in the 70s and early 80s for performance reasons. I think they died out because of legislation on hydrocarbon emissions, and perhaps the regrettable tendency of bikes to catch fire due to the petrol spilling down the outside of the carbs combined with spit-back through the inlet tracts when starting - I saw an SS catch fire four times in one starting session. Later bikes wént over tó CV cárbs which used á separate enriching vaIve to do thé samé trick - but théy had a butterfIy valve for othér reasons and Iost performance relative tó a slide cárb. As an exampIe, the 1100 Katana had CVs, but the concurrent 1000 Katana had slides, as it would be used for production racing.
